On July 22, 2026, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held a national work conference on water environment improvement and beautiful river construction in Maanshan. The Guantang River water system remediation project in Dangtu County, undertaken by MCC Huatian on an EPC basis, was selected as a key demonstration inspection site.
Currently, the river’s water quality has steadily reached Class III surface water standard. The formerly black and odorous watercourse has been transformed into a clean, green ecological corridor. Adhering to the principle of source control, systematic treatment, ecological restoration and long-term smart management, the project solves prominent local problems including water pollution, insufficient drainage capacity and ecological degradation, achieving a fundamental upgrade of regional water environment quality.
Systematic Governance Builds Integrated Urban Water Network
MCC Huatian has undertaken a series of urban renewal and water pollution control projects in northern Dangtu, covering 25+ major water systems, over 30 km of pipe network renovation and 5 pumping stations. Targeting poor water fluidity, rainwater-sewage mixing and sediment accumulation, the project abandoned fragmented renovation methods.
Supported by GIS pipeline mapping and hydraulic model simulation, MCC Huatian built a full-chain technical system: pollution interception, sediment dredging, water system connectivity, ecological restoration, slope protection and pumping station upgrading. By removing hydraulic barriers and restoring flood discharge capacity, the project realizes comprehensive improvement from pollution treatment to ecological restoration, forming a healthy and circulating urban water network.
Dual Internal and External Source Precise Pollution Control
For external pollution control, the project adopted a three-dimensional investigation system combining endoscopic detection, ground inspection and pollution traceability. With CCTV, QV periscope and sonar detection technologies, the team accurately located pipeline rupture, misconnection and concealed leakage points.
All discovered problems are recorded in digital files and managed under a closed-loop rectification mechanism, thoroughly blocking external sewage inflow. For internal pollution control, fully enclosed environmental dredging and sediment improvement are carried out. In-situ nitrogen and phosphorus passivation effectively reduces endogenous pollutant release, avoiding the common problem of post-dredging water quality rebound.
Ecological Restoration Builds Self-Sustaining Water Ecosystem
The project adopts an ecology-first strategy and appliesnative aquatic species to avoid biological invasion. Reasonably matched submerged and emergent plants rebuild stable underwater vegetation communities.
Following ecological succession rules, the team improved bottom substrate and water transparency before vegetation planting. A complete aquatic food chain is established with reasonable stocking of native fish, shrimp and benthic snails. The mature underwater ecosystem realizes continuous pollutant degradation and algae inhibition, enabling the water body to achieveself-purification and self-maintenance, completing the transformation from engineering treatment to ecological nurturing.
Advanced Technologies Improve Treatment Efficiency and Durability
The project widely adopts trenchless rehabilitation technologies, including UV curing, short pipe replacement and point repair. These methods greatly reduce road excavation and minimize disturbance to residents and traffic, with renovated pipelines boasting decades of service life.
Solar aeration, micro-nano bubble aeration and submersible blowers are comprehensively applied to improve dissolved oxygen and enhance microbial purification capacity. Hydraulic calculation and catchment modeling optimize water system connectivity, ensuring both flood safety and effective water circulation. The integrated technical system achieves precise source control, efficient in-situ purification and long-term ecological stability.
Full-Cycle Supervision Guarantees Quality and Long-Term Effect
During construction, a joint multi-department supervision mechanism and digital inspection system are implemented. Every procedure is verified, recorded and archived, with unstandardized construction corrected immediately to ensure traceable, high-quality engineering results.
For long-term operation, the project establishes regular river patrols and online water quality monitoring. Real-time data supports early warning and intelligent scheduling to prevent water quality deterioration and sustain stable treatment results.
At present, black and odorous water has been completely eliminated. The river’s drainage capacity and waterfront landscape have been significantly upgraded. MCC Huatian empowers Dangtu’s high-quality ecological development with innovative water treatment technologies, continuously improving residents’ well-being.
