At 7:30 PM on May 8, the 10kV switchgear for the 1# bar line upgrade and high-speed wire project at Guangxi Guigang Steel was successfully energized. On-site monitoring confirmed all operating parameters were stable, providing reliable power support for subsequent full production.
The project is a key technical upgrade for Guigang Steel, aimed at building a bar-wire combined production line with an annual capacity of 700,000 tons. Built on the existing foundation, the line adds high-speed wire equipment on a +5.0m elevated platform. It will produce wire rods (Φ5.5–28mm) and round bars (Φ18–60mm), covering high-end steel grades including tire cord and cold-heading steel, thereby enriching the product portfolio and enhancing market competitiveness.
Power is fed from the 110kV Guigang Steel substation to the 10kV switchgear system, which uses precisely set microcomputer protection values to establish a reliable electrical protection framework. Given the large load fluctuations and numerous electrical devices on the rolling line, the project team, together with the owner's technical staff, repeatedly optimized relay protection settings, completing over 90 protection value verifications. This ensures the system can withstand transient peak current surges while quickly and accurately isolating faults when they occur.
On-site teams coordinated closely, strictly following procedures from switching operations to parameter monitoring. When the switchgear was successfully energized and the comprehensive protection devices showed normal readings, the site broke into applause. "This is not just a successful power-up; it is the result of the project team's collaborative effort," said the MCC Huatian project manager. The successful energization of the 10kV switchgear lays a solid foundation for subsequent equipment installation, commissioning, and trial production.
The project team will now accelerate equipment installation and commissioning, aiming for full production as soon as possible.
